ISSUE: WHAT IS THE MAX ROSTER SIZE DURING THE AUCTION PHASE.
RULE DECISION:
The rules state that MLB roster is 25 players so I am sticking to this and will delete the players that were aquired by a team after this requirement has been met for any teams over 25 players. The transactions would have been blocked had we been using a league service and not running it manually.
Here are the corresponding roster moves I have made as a result:
NEWARK
removed - Joakim Soria - acquired 2/11 @ 9:53 AM
removed - Garrett Richards - acquired 2/11 @ 6:08 AM
Adding Tyler Olson and Scott Oberg back to their roster.
NEW YORK METS
removed - Brad Brach - 2/9 @ 6:23 PM
removed - Jody Mercer - 2/10 @ 7:57 AM
removed - Magneuris Sierra - 2/10 @ 8:56 PM
TAMPA
removed - Jeurys Familia - 2/10 @ 7:26 PM
ISSUE: DROPPING PLAYERS DURING AUCTION:
The question has come up on whether or not we can drop players during the auction to bid on other players. I have had multiple people assume that we could and multiple people assume that we couldn't
RULE DECISION:
This is a tricky one that may not have a perfect solution so I will try to be fair and then expectation set for the remainder of the draft. Please try to ok with my decision here.
Our league rules do not specifically state whether or not you can drop players during our initial roster setting phase. We do not even have the lineups fully entered, years assigned, or a place to note drops so I am not sure where you would drop the players. It was the intention that you would not be able to drop players until rosters were set and we transitioned from the proboards site to the.
However, half the members thought drops were ok and half did not. In order to try to fairly close that gap as fairly as possible here is what i propose.
1. Every team will have the opportunity to drop 1 player currently on their roster. I will open a post up on the proboards site so it is public. The dropped player will incur the 50% drop fee for the 2019 season since that is in the rules and all contracts are technically at 1 year right now. This is the best compromise i could think of to allow people who interpreted the rules one way an opportunity to make a slight adjustment before they fall back in line with the expectation, and allows everyone else that same opportunity as well but they do not have to incur that cap hit if they don't want to that the teams that drop the one player will. Again, i know it is not perfect but seems like a fair compromise to me so we can move forward with no more drops.
2. I am going to put a deadline on this that you must drop the player by the time the auction is restarted and then no more drops. I expect this to be in a day or two.
3. You will not be able to drop any other players until the auction is complete and the rosters are full for all teams.
4. You may continue to trade as that was established in the rules prior to the start of the draft.
REMAINING SCHEDULE:
1. Find replacement owner - should only take a day or two.
2. Finish the auction
- must have 25 players when it is done.
- may not bid on players if you have a full roster.
- Nominations - It doesn't make sense for all 24 teams to continue nominating so many players just to have no bid. Please only continue to nominate up to 3 if you still have roster spots to fill.
3. Once the auction is complete - we will assign years to the players that we won that have veteran contracts.
4. I will enter the final salaries and contract info into Fantrax and all owners mush confirm they are correct. Once all owners have confirmed they are correct we will transition from the proboards site to the Fantrax site
5. Once we have transitioned to the Fantrax site you there will be a period where all free agents are on waivers. Anyone not claimed will then be a free agent which is first come first serve.
You will also then be able to promote minor leaguers, Move MLB players to your minors if they qualify, Drop players, trade, and set your roster per our in season rules and the rules of the site.
