There are four types of contracts that a player can be signed to. All players follow the following flow of contracts which are based on our league service time and not MLB service times:
MINORS --> TEAM CONTROL (3 YRS.) --> ARBITRATION ELIGIBLE (3 YRS) -->VETERAN
MINOR LEAGUE CONTACTS
-For minor league eligible players who have never earned a fantasy point.
-550K/season
-Minor leaguers are not assigned years and can be kept until promoted or released in the offseason.
TEAM CONTROL (TC)
A Major League contract (Team control year 1) is assigned to a player once they are promoted to a team’s MLB team and have collected a stat in our league. The player is under team control for 6 seasons. The first 3 seasons after their initial promotion are considered team control contracts at the following salaries and the deals are considered to be 1 year contracts.
Year 1 – Team Control 1 - 550K
Year 2 – Team Control 2 - 550K
Year 3 – Team Control 3 - 550K
ARBITRAION ELIGIBLE CONTRACT (ARB)
-Once a player has 4-6 years of experience in our league they will become arbitration eligible and their salary is determined through the arbitration process below:
ARBITRATION PROCESS:
There are 3 outcomes for an arbitration player. There is a low, medium, and high option which is determined based on the owner’s discretion.
-The owner can agree to the Medium increase below and will avoid going to arbitration with a player.
-If an owner wants to go through arbitration the player will either win and get a higher increase in salary or the team might win and the player gets a lower salary increase. Results are processed using random.org and randomizing 5 times.
Arbitration increase table:
If a player is in the top 12 points scored at their primary (most games played) position from the previous season
If a player is not in the top 12 points scored at their primary (most games played) position from the previous season
VETERAN CONTRACTS (VET)
-After a player’s 6th year of major league experience has ended they will become a free agent and can sign with any team. Players will have their base salary determined via auction and years will be assigned upon the free agent auction’s completion.
***veteran free agent signings would also follow this contract format***
Veteran Salary format:
- The winning auction bid amount will become the player’s base salary.
- Upon completion of the auction you can assign years from 1-5 years and cannot be changed once assigned.
- You can either assign an ascending or descending contract which cannot be changed once assigned.
- The player’s base salary is adjusted depending on the contract length and ascending/descending tables below. Percentages listed are the percent of the player’s base salary for each year of the contract:

SALARY RESTRICTIONS AND LUXURY TAX
SALARY CAP:
To represent MLB’s lack of a true salary cap we use a modified system with a soft salary cap and a hard salary cap. At the beginning of each season you must declare if you are playing at the soft cap or the hard cap level. You get a higher salary cap at the hard cap level but your league entry fee is also higher.
Soft Cap = $100 Million dollars
Hard Cap = $110 Million dollars for the first year over the soft cap
Hard Cap - $115 Million dollars for 2+ years over the soft cap
Corresponding league fees:
Soft cap = $30 entry fee (no extra cost)
Hard Cap – 1st year over - $40 entry fee ($10 luxury tax applied)
2nd year over - $ 45entry fee ($15 luxury tax applied)
3+ years over - $50 entry fee ($20 luxury tax applied)
***If a team goes back to the soft cap then the years will reset.***
Luxury Tax:
Paid out to teams that played the season at the soft salary cap for the season. Luxury tax will be divided evenly amongst these teams and if there is a remainder amount that does not divide evenly the few extra cents will go to the highest
LEAGUE MINIMUM:
550k Salary – even if a veteran player’s contract would normally drop below this amount the minimum will remain 550K.
EARLY CONTRACT TERMINATION
An early contract termination fee will be applied if a player is released from their contract early.
Team control and Arbitration eligible – 50%
Veteran contracts – 50% in current year and 50 % for all remaining contract years.
NON TENURED FREE AGENTS:
If a player is released while still under team control (pre-arbitration/arbitration eligible) they will become a free agent and the winning team will now take over team control of the player wherever they are in the contract progression.
PLAYER RETIREMENT
-If you are able to prove a player has retired you are no longer responsible for the player’s salary (no penalty). If you cannot prove a player retired you are responsible for their salary until they have not played for 2 full seasons. Death will also void a contract.
